Guidelines for New or Revised Special Events
Jasper National Park Established in 1907 is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. Ninety-eight percent of the park is managed wilderness. Jasper is also part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site that covers 26,583 square kilometers of some of the most spectacular and ecologically significant areas of the Canadian Rockies.
"The National Parks of Canada are hereby dedicated to the people of Canada for their benefit, education and enjoyment, subject to this act and regulations, and the National Parks shall be maintained and made use of so as to leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations."
- National Parks Act
SPECIAL EVENTS are those activities occurring in Jasper National Park and are considered "a planned temporary activity conducted for recreation, entertainment or promotional purposes, and includes a parade, concert, theatrical or musical performance, sports event, fair, circus, contest and show."
These guidelines have been developed in order that Parks Canada can ensure appropriate use and understanding of natural and cultural resources, without diminishing the qualities and attributes that give those resources their value.
Conditions for Wedding Ceremonies - Jasper National Park
There is currently no formal process or permission required to hold a wedding ceremony at a public area in the park. There is, however, a need for the park to manage its day-use areas and prevent user conflicts.
- At no time does an event have exclusive rights to an area. The function must not displace regular visitors’ enjoyment of the park and its facilities. Day-use areas should only be used for the ceremony. Extended stays or receptions are not appropriate.
- Participants and guests require a valid National Parks Pass.
- There must be compliance with National Park regulations at all times.
- There must not be any significant impact on the park’s natural and cultural resources. Do not pick flowers; stay on pathways. No shelters or chairs are to be set up in the area. (A few folding chairs for the elderly or infirm are allowed.)
- The event must comply with the Gaming and Liquor Control Act of Alberta. No liquor is permitted in public areas.
- A thorough cleanup of the site immediately after the event must be done. Organizers accept full responsibility for any incidents, and/or costs of clean up or site rehabilitation resulting from the event. No confetti or rice shall be thrown.
- Day-use areas are closed after 2300 hours.
- The person responsible for the event will attempt to keep vehicular traffic to a minimum. Car pooling or group transportation is preferable.
- No gas powered generators are allowed.
- The contact person will be available for a post event inspection if necessary and is at all times responsible for the conduct of the people in his/her charge.
- No excessive noise, horn honking, or loud music are permitted.
- Recreational use of drones in Jasper National Park is prohibited. Drone flying is a popular hobby for many people and may also be used for commercial purposes. However, drones can pose risks to visitors, disturb wildlife and lead to negative experiences for other visitors to Jasper National Park.
